About the event
Webinar Speakers Justin Boardman (National Expert on Trauma-Informed Sexual Violence Response and Intervention) Retired Detective Justin Boardman was in law enforcement for 15 years, all with the West Valley City Police Department. For seven years Justin was assigned to the Special Victim’s Unit. During his first year in Investigation’s, Justin was awarded Investigator of the Year, conducted nearly 300 forensic child victim interviews, and 140 adult sexual assault victim interviews. Justin co-authored (along with Donna Kelly, Utah Prosecution Council) a Trauma-Informed Victim Interview protocol for adult victims of sexual assault. This new protocol uses the Neurobiology of Trauma to gain additional information to be used in the investigation. This process has been studied and has shown to increase prosecutions along with procedure changes. Justin’s focus is to strengthen investigations in a victim-centered, suspect focused, and trauma-informed way. He also believes in pushing culture change. Justin left active police work to focus on culture change within the community he loves. Leah Lutz (National Expert on Trauma-Informed Sexual Violence Response and Intervention ) As an expert in issues of sexual violence, Leah Lutz has been instrumental in literally transforming the landscape of victim-centered response and intervention at local and national levels. She is president of Leah Lutz Consulting & amp; Training, a Minnesota firm she founded in 2018, after two decades of leadership in nonprofit agencies focused on victim advocacy and providing training and technical assistance to multidisciplinary teams. In her most recent roles with the Sexual Violence Institute (SVJI) at the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MNCASA), Leah guided the development of the first Case File Review Kit for sexual assault crimes and the innovative “Are We Making a Difference?” online evaluation tool used by organizations nationwide. She also developed expertise in trauma-informed and victim-centered responses and service provision.
